Strategic commissioning is often defined as “all the activities involved in assessing and forecasting needs, links investment to agreed desired outcomes, considering options, planning the nature, range and quality of future services, and working in partnership to put these in place.”

This webinar unpicks this definition, and provides an overview, with reference to published studies and practical experience, of commissioning processes, tools, and approaches, including:

  • An overview of the Scottish context
  • Definition of strategic commissioning
  • The strategic commissioning cycle
  • Understanding health and social care systems

Informing Decisions – Using data to help you ask (and answer) the right questions (22 Feb 2017)

This webinar discusses the use of data to inform decision making, addressing the tools and techniques to support data analysis, including:

  • Defining and understanding need
  • Tips for undertaking population needs assessment
  • How to use data for improvement, particularly during the understand phase of the improvement journey
  • How to integrate and use data available from ISD and LIST
