Strategic planners have a unique world view that plays a vital role in the planning and development of health and care services and support. Strategic planning provides valuable insight on what support should be provided and how it should be provided.

The roles involved in strategic planning are less formally recognised career pathways than other roles within health and social care. We have recently published a Good Practice Skills for Strategic Planning resource to articulate the function and role of strategic planning and identify the skills and competencies relevant for strategic planners.
