Admin and Clerical Appreciation Week

Asking for staff suggestions is a great way to raise staff morale. It also helps identify unique opportunities to ensure colleagues feel appreciated and supported. This August, United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust launched their inaugural ‘Admin and Clerical Appreciation Week’. This idea was suggested by other staff members to put specific teams in the limelight. However, it is important to note that the Trust has stressed that all job roles across the organisation are important and similar campaigns for other groups are planned. This format allows colleagues across the Trust to celebrate those who have proved invaluable in recent months.

Organisers wanted to provide specially designed development opportunities for admin and clerical staff. They arranged for teams across the trust to deliver a series of events via MS Teams. The seven key areas of focus were:

• recognition
• leadership
• appraisals
• wellbeing
• talent academy
• ICT, and
• patient experience.

A Trust-wide social media campaign showcased a selection of case studies about members of staff from multiple teams. These detailed roles and experiences during COVID-19. The campaign ‘I’m Just a …’ was promoted across the Trust’s social media channels. Additionally, quotes were shared across twitter with unique hashtags created for the week, #WeAppreciateOurAdmin, #NHSAdminTeam, #TeamULHT, and #WeAreLincsNHS.

The recognition of hard work by admin and clerical staff was further highlighted with special visits by the Executive Team to personally say thank you, reminders to managers to regularly show their thanks, and the promotion of opportunities to nominate colleagues for upcoming annual staff awards. Feedback from the week has encouraged the Trust to make this the first of many appreciation weeks. Later this year they will be recognising the fantastic work of their estates and facilities colleagues.
