Supporting people with an intellectual/learning disability and advanced dementia moving into a care home October 2022:  People with a learning disability and advancing dementia may move into a care home because their needs have increased and can no longer be met in their own home. To support their move, Healthcare Improvement Scotland and the Care Inspectorate, in collaboration with key partners, have developed guidance to support care home staff and services as they support people with a learning disability and advancing dementia to move to a care home. Continue reading . . .

 

Alzheimer Scotland annual conference September 2022: We attended the Alzheimer Scotland annual conference at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on 5 September 2022 along with over 400 attendees ranging from people with dementia and cares to staff from across health, social care, academia and the third sector. The theme of the conference, held during World Alzheimer’s Month, was 'Prevent, Care, Cure'. The Focus on Dementia team hosted a symposium session ‘Supporting Quality Improvement in Dementia’, attended by 50 people, to provide an overview of the current improvements we are supporting across Scotland with the opportunity for questions and discussion. Continue reading . . .

 

National launch of the Herbert Protocol September 2021: We hosted the national launch of the Herbert Protocol on 1 September 2021 with 570 attendees from across the health, social care, Police Scotland and the third sector. The aim was to share the protocol that focuses on people living with dementia who may be at risk of going missing it raised awareness of completing this form in advance so that significant information is recorded and readily available for the police. Continue reading...

 

Person-centred planning workshop August 2021:We hosted an online person-centred planning workshop on 19 August 2021 with 49 attendees from across health, social care and the third sector. Person-centred planning and dementia webinar May 2021: We hosted a presentation based webinar on 19 May 2021 with 226 attendees from across health, social care and the third sector. Virtual visiting webinar December 2020: We hosted a webinar, alongside colleagues from Community Engagement, on 3 December 2020 with 64 attendees from across health, social care and the third sector. The aim was to discuss the importance of using technology to connect in-patients with family and friends during the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. Continue reading...

 

Dementia practitioners network event February 2020: We hosted an event on 27 February 2020 at Stirling Court Hotel with 134 attendees from across health, social care and the third sector. The aim was to update on national programmes of work, share learning and best practice through workshops and networking opportunities for staff working with people with dementia and carers. The event also included a pre-consultation exercise to develop Scotland’s 4th National Dementia Strategy. Continue reading...
