Programme History 

2022 – 2024 – Mental Health and Substance Use: Improving our Response

The aim of the Mental Health and Substance Use: Improving our Response programme was to improve quality of care and health outcomes for people with a dual diagnosis of mental ill health and substance use in Scotland. The programme supported the prototyping of new models and pathways of care, with a view to spreading good practice, innovation and learning about “what works” Scotland-wide. It expanded on existing work in NHS Tayside, to develop and test an integrated approach to mental health and substance use, to four other health boards; NHS Grampian, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, NHS Lanarkshire and NHS Lothian.

2021 - 2022 – Dundee: The Integrated Mental Health and Substance Use Pathfinder

The mental health and substance use programme began in NHS Tayside as The Integrated Mental Health and Substance Use Pathfinder programme. This aimed to redesigned care pathways to improve quality of care and health outcomes for people with mental health and substance use support needs.
The programme of work was developed in response to recommendations by Dundee Drugs Commission and The Independent Review of Mental Health Services.
