Using a Red Rules vs Blue Rules framework in the New Models for Learning Disability Day Supports Collaborative:
What are red and blue rules?
The terms ‘red rules’ and ‘blue rules’ can be used to refer to rules that are either set in stone (red) or those that can be changed under certain circumstances (blue).
What have we learned so far?
As collaborative teams began to think of rules in their local context, there was a shared recognition that some perceived red rules were actually more blue (changeable under the right circumstances). Discussion exposed certain aspects that facilitated potential rule changes, including leadership, strong communication, and having an evidence base.
