Taking a wobble, or some relaxation, for staff wellbeing | from NHS Bradford and NHSGGC

For busy health and care professionals, the ability to take time out from the stress of their working day has proven to be a real benefit in at least two hospitals in the UK.  When staff have felt overwhelmed, they’ve found that having a dedicated area in which they can relax, talk to one another or just take a moment alone has made a huge difference.

Here are two examples already working successfully.

NHS Bradford put together a guide for teams to create their own wobble rooms.  In there it is ok to have a wobble, vent, cry or just take 5 minutes out. It’s so easy to set up. It can be any room of any size and it’s up to individual teams to decide what they need in their room. On Twitter search #wobblerooms for ideas.

How to set up a wobble room:

  • write Wobble Room on a piece of paper,
  • stick it on the door,
  • tell people about it, and
  • listen without judgement and with compassion.

NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde have created Relaxation and Recuperation (R&R) Hubs. These R&R Hubs are available 24/7, large enough for social distancing and have been set up for staff to take time away from their clinical work environments. R&R Hubs also provide handy signposting to further help and support if staff feel they need it. Each hub contains:

  • Café Space for eating and drinking
  • Active Space with games
  • Quiet Space for Relax and Reflection
