Making things brighter and less scary for children | from Stockport NHS FT
Children are often scared and overwhelmed being in hospital. All staff want to do is make them feel as comfortable as possible in their surroundings.
Staff decided to put colourful stickers onto their visors so that the children could recognise them during walk-abouts on the ward. It seems children are not too scared to speak to their favourite superhero or cartoon character!
It was obvious these simple and easy touches help children to cope with being in hospital, and to smile and laugh with staff when they can’t see their parents or siblings as often.
Encouraging patient smiles and conversations has also proven to help staff themselves enjoy a more light-hearted moment at work during pressurised times.
