SPSP Perinatal programme

Supporting improved outcomes for women, birthing people and babies in Scotland

Our aim is to improve safety for women, birthing people and babies in Scotland. To improve safety, our perinatal programme focuses on four areas. The four areas are:

  • reducing stillbirths
  • recognition, response and escalation of maternal deterioration
  • understanding variation in caesarean section
  • reducing neonatal mortality and morbidity

We co-design our programmes with clinical and quality improvement (QI) colleagues who are part of our expert reference group. Members include midwives, neonatal nurses, obstetricians, obstetric anaesthetists and neonatologists. The expert reference group is working with us to create improvement resources and change packages.
