What is the Pharmacy NSAIDs toolkit?

The NSAIDs toolkit aims to improve safety for patients taking these medications. There are two bundles to address this.

  1. NSAIDs Safer Care Bundle –  This bundle aims to improve the clinical care of patients who take NSAIDs in addition to other medication. It acts as a prompt to pharmacists to consider key points, including a patient needs assessment and identification of ‘high risk’ patients along with potential interventions when processing a prescription for NSAIDs.
  2. NSAIDs Communication Care Bundle – This bundle supports pharmacy teams to deliver key messages to patients being dispensed or purchasing NSAIDs.

The Scottish Patient Safety Programme (SPSP) and the University of Strathclyde have designed a 5-minute survey to explore the advice and care offered to patients on an ‘NSAID’. This is designed for all community pharmacy staff in Scotland to complete, and will help us to understand what support is needed to improve services.

The survey will close on 2 December 2022.

If you have any questions about the survey or would like more information, please contact Natalie Weir at the University of Strathclyde on natalie.m.weir@strath.ac.uk.
