10 years of SPSP
Not only was 2018 the 70th Anniversary of the NHS, it was also the 10th Anniversary of the launch of the Scottish Patient Safety Programme (SPSP).
In recognition of this important milestone, this online resource was developed to celebrate its impact and recognise all those who have contributed to its success. Watch this short film highlighting the achievements.
Since the launch of SPSP on January 14 2008, the programme has expanded to support improvements in safety across a wide range of care settings including Acute and Primary Care, Mental Health, Maternity, Neonatal, Paediatric services and in Medicine safety. Underpinned by the robust application of quality improvement methodology SPSP has brought about significant change in outcomes for people across Scotland.
SPSP is now embedded within Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s Improvement Hub (ihub) supporting improvements within NHSScotland boards and most recently expanded into health and social care partnerships.

Patient Safety Awards
The Scottish Patient Safety Programme was shortlisted for a Patient Safety Award in the category for the Patient Safety Team of the Year Award. The winner was announced in Manchester on 9 July 2018.
