Focus on Dementia - improving post-diagnostic support for people living with dementia
People with dementia and their carers need access to quality post-diagnostic support (PDS). This support helps them to live well and plan for the future. Healthcare Improvement Scotland is working to improve PDS across Scotland. You can help.
Our Focus on Dementia team is looking to improve PDS. PDS teams in Scotland can apply to join us and make improvements to PDS services.

We encourage you to attend a session before submitting an application.
The programme
By joining this programme you will have support to:
- understand your system, what’s going well and what could be better
- identify your priority areas for improvement, and
- implement and record changes in practice, using quality improvement expertise and coaching.
Your improvement work can be small in scale or for planning longer term improvement.
This work will include a focus on:
- the new Dementia SIGN guideline recommendations (due in 2023)
- the local delivery plan standard for dementia
- the standards of care for dementia
- the fourth national dementia strategy (due in 2023)
The support is available from July 2023 to June 2024.
