At the International Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare conference in Amsterdam, earlier this month, the ihub signed up to the new #QiComms charter.

The #QiComms charter is an international movement that has been developed to increase interest in the often overlooked communications element of quality improvement work.

The ihub had always acknowledged that strategic communications is an integral part of quality and safety improvement work it delivers and a vital component in achieving the Directorates aims and objectives. Using strategic communications in a planned way supports and underpins work that inspires, motivates and informs all those involved to deliver better, safer treatment and care for individuals.

The Charter describes how, by investing in planning, data collection, skills and resources, teams can use communications to understand their audiences and communicate persuasively to support change.

Ruth Glassborow, Director of Improvement at Healthcare Improvement Scotland said:

“I’m delighted the ihub has signed up to the #QiComms Charter. I firmly believe that good communications can advance the quality improvement work we undertake in Scotland across health and social care. We often work with one or two local services to test new ways of working and effective communications is vital for helping us to spread the learning about what has and hasn’t worked.”
