Running your service

Technological advances have made the Hospital at Home service possible, but what do you need in your service? This section has advice on the technology needed to start a service, presentations from remote and rural boards, as well as guidance on point of care testing.

Hospital at Home is unique in delivering an acute service in the community. It is vital that governance processes are in place including reporting and accountability structures, and that there are SOPs, guidelines and algorithms in place to support staff to deliver consistent, safe care.

Working with other services

A successful Hospital at Home service needs to engage and work effectively with a wide range of services, including primary care, community services and social care.

Decision making and care planning

Developing effective communication systems within your team, including clear procedures for clinical decision making and escalation will help to improve your service.
