Explaining COVID-19 to children | from NHS North Cumbria CCG & University Hospitals Southampton (NHSFT)
It can be daunting for a child to be in hospital. The backdrop of COVID-19 and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) adds extra anxiety. To explain COVID-19 and PPE to children, staff at NHS North Cumbria CCG and NHSFT created child-friendly resources.
NHS North Cumbria CCG made a two-minute animated video to explain what children should expect when they see a doctor, what the equipment they are wearing is for and how it protects them and the doctor. They also show different types of masks children might be asked to wear.
NHSFT– created a child friendly poster about COVID-19 for children which is available to download. It outlines what the disease is, what to do if they are unwell and if they need to get tested doctors and nurses will be wearing PPE.
