When death comes unexpectedly | from University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine, Canada

A quick-thinking doctor caring for a COVID-19 patient in Canada realised that his patient was deteriorating rapidly and at end of life. He immediately switched on an iPad and contacted the patient's family in a video call. He tells the story of what happens next in his Twitter feed.

In total, 15 family members joined the call within 10 minutes. The doctor held the screen up for 15 minutes so they could all share special memories and have their opportunity to say goodbye. Emotionally harrowing for all concerned, but the doctor helped bridge the physical distance at a critical moment.
