Recording patient-family contact ensures better handovers | from Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS
Keeping track of who has called relatives each day can be time-consuming and this information needs to be included in shift-change meetings. This is so much more important when visiting is restricted, and ensures families are updated and kept connected to their loved one.
To record when a call has taken place, staff created a simple chart on a whiteboard. Each time a member of staff called a patient’s family all that was needed was a quick tick in the right box.
This basic method of recording calls has helped staff to know exactly when the last time was that families were in touch, and ensure no one is forgotten.
