Developing your change theory

Once collaborative teams had agreed their aims, they began to consider what needed to be changed based on their current situation. The teams found creating driver diagrams helpful.

NHS Forth Valley (PDF) developed the driver diagram below to help develop their plans for improved staff wellbeing.

Diagram shows a diagram with an aim to improve staff wellbeing by 20% by November 2019. It shows the Primary and secondary drivers to achieving this.

Creating a driver diagram with your team identifies steps required to achieve your aim, and helps the whole team to contribute ideas for change. Another example (PDF) from the NHS Fife Psychological Therapy team (PDF) may help you think about which change ideas to test.
